I would like to personally recognize and thank each and every member of this special girls softball team for a great season! This was only the second year for this team's existence and this year they were led by Head Coach Curt DeSchambeau and Assistant Coach, Bill Griffin.There are only two junior high teams in our area, and those are Oil City and Franklin. There is, of course, the natural rivalry of neighboring towns there, and believe me, this team had a long row to hoe to beat Franklin. Franklin girls softball is always very very competitive and well coached. I am hoping that as years progress, more schools will come on board with junior high teams.
This year, the girls played a total of two double headers against Franklin and then traveled to Cranberry Township to compete in the Pine Richland Tournament, where they played against much much larger established teams, and still received fifth place.
Of the four games against Franklin, the girls were victorious in three games. We have never, as a school team, beat Franklin in softball! This team of girls did such a wonderful job and everyone is super proud of their hard work and heart. I mean to take nothing away from the Franklin girls, because they played super softball! Both teams of girls were very competitive, yet sportsmanlike (and that matters a lot in my opinion).
