The 31st Homan-Cunningham Oil Heritage Tournament

07/20/09 17:35

The Oil Heritage Tournament will always be a part of the culture of Venango County. The late James “Chops” Cunningham would always marvel at the contributions of the tournament to the county's sporting scene, and now that the tournament bears his name, there's more reason for local softball teams to participate and test their skills.

Canoe and Kayak Trips Along the Allegheny River

07/17/09 08:50
Paddling the Allegheny River or French Creek has always been a favorite local attraction among tourists every summer, only to be disappointed that there are actually no canoe and kayak liveries in the river--that was until Jeff Brunton of Franklin chose to establish one.

Double play amazing enough, but with an even more amazing twist

By Vicki at 07/01/09 08:13

In a recent game on June 29 featuring Cinderella's Janitorial Services and Car Connection, there were plenty of reasons to be amazed!

Both teams are playing in the Oil City Co-Ed Softball League in the 2009 season. Cinderella's, coached by Curt DeSchambeau, includes a few father and child pairs (although they are hardly children any more to watch them!).

I enjoy watching these games and most teams are very encouraging to each other as many are freinds in the community. On the Cinderella team, the coach encourages good sportsmanship and hard effort.

During this game, playing against Car Connection, coached by Marv Lander (whose daughter Sara also plays on the team), there was a ball that was hit directly to the shortstop, Tim Staub Jr.  He immediately flips it over to Kaity Wenner playing second base for the out there.

Then as you can see in this you tube video, Kaity makes a beautiful throw over to first base to Kelly Wesley, who not only made the out, but did it while doing the splits!

YouTube Video

Check out the video. I only wish it could have been at a little better angle to see the whole split. It happened so fast, she was up before we could all appreciate it!

Good job to both teams, and what a fun time it is when you see some good playing by both teams!
